According to the Child Accident Prevention Trust, over two million children are taken to hospital each year after having an accident and approximately half of these happen in the home. Many more accidents are thought to occur, but are treated by parent and carers or a family doctor and therefore not recorded in official statistics. Falls, burns and poisoning are the most commonly recorded injuries.
Lindam the UK's number one brand in safety [source NPD Retail Tracking service - 2008, Q1 & Q2 2009 in £], have created a 'Stay Safe at Home' guide, which aims to help parents remove the potential dangers and create a safe environment for their children to live and play.
The transition from baby to toddler is an exciting time. However, for parents, it is also one of the most worrying. We recognise that children should not be prevented from learning and developing naturally but they need to grow in a safe environment protected from serious harm. Whilst toddlers are blissfully unaware of the dangers that hide behind every door and in every room, it is vital that parents are fully aware of these dangers and most importantly how to remove them.
Seeing the world through a child's eyes is a good way for parents to be more aware of the possible danger points and make their home safer.
