Who is Lindam?
Celebrating 20 years, Lindam is a family business focusing on the design, development and manufacture of high quality, affordable products for babies and young children.
Lindam is the largest nursery brand in the UK (source NPD Retail Tracking service - full year 2008, Q1 & Q2 2009 in units) and is the UK's number 1 safety brand [source NPD Retail Tracking service - full year 2008, Q1 & Q2 2009 in £) for child safety, including safety gates, bed guards, play pens and door bouncers. Lindam's products are stocked in all major retailers in the UK and are distributed to over 40 countries worldwide.
Mark Rycroft, Managing Director of Lindam states: "The Lindam range is all about safety, this was the case when the company was set up 20 years ago and remains the critical factor today. As a Father myself, I know that a child's safety is the most important thing to any parent. Every year over two million children are taken to hospital after having an accident, and approximately half of these accidents happen in the home! We look at the world from a childs view, which ensures we design and manufacture safety products that will help prevent serious injuries."
How it all began
As parents to young children, the founders of Lindam had used safety products that were available on the market. They soon identified that there was an opportunity to develop and enhance these products and expand the market. In doing this, they would also help to inform parents as to the importance of safeguarding specific areas of their home.
Safety gates in particular were traditionally heavy, unattractive and difficult to assemble and did not take into consideration the need of the parent or how the gate would be used or look within the surrounding of the home. They had a tendency to be expensive, unbranded and slightly unattractive. In short, parents didn't regard them as an essential safety item.
Driven by a passion to make children's lives safer, Lindam began to create a new range of safety solutions, whilst raising parents awareness of the importance of these products. They also started to offer advice as to how and where they needed to be used within their home. Lindam remained focused on ensuring these safety solutions were within financial reach of the parent.
Lindam launched their first safety gate in 1993 - the Lindam Easy Fit Classic.
The Easy Fit Classic could be used without drilling and didn't require screws. It was simple and easy to use. The unique selling point was it was already assembled and ready for use. Very quickly, the Easy Fit Classic became a principal safety item within families homes.
The pressure fit gate was born - an affordable, easy to fit, practical safety gate for multiple purpose use, in particular stairs and doorways, which safeguarded key danger areas for small children within the home. The pressure fit gate design operates using a power frame; a "u" shaped frame which enhances the stability and safety of the gate.
Today, Lindam offer one of the largest ranges of safety gates, featuring traditional pressure fit models as well as wall mounted options. Each safety gate offers differential benefits - including multi way opening systems providing a one or two way opening as well as allowing the gate to be completely locked, varying handle mechanisms and auto close functionality, and a choice of material - wood, metal or wood with metal.

Lindam's continued growth has been supported by several strategic partnerships including the association with Annabel Karmel, one of the leading experts and author on baby and child nutrition, in the development of their weaning range.
